501(c)3 STATUS AND DONATIONS

Funding for the designated Dress Uniform items and Search And Rescue (SAR), radio equipment is wholly dependant on donations to the Posse.  Unlike some other states, the State of New Mexico does not provide any funding for Search And Rescue Teams.

Members must provide their own equines, 4-wheel drive vehicles, clothing and equipment to meet SAR mission requirements.

The Posse provides components of the Posse Full Dress Uniform and all SAR radio equipment to members.  Funds to purchase these items come from Donations and a few interest bearing CD's.

No members or Officers receive any remuneration with the exception of to-from mileage allowance on SAR missions.

Without the proper radio equipment, the Posse cannot safely dispatch its members on SAR missions, nor can the Posse properly participate in such missions.

Without professional Dress Uniform items, the Posse cannot take full advantage of the unique opportunities to showcase the "West" to residents and visitors alike through participation in parades, Rodeo Grand Entries and at museum and cultural events.

In short, without donations and the needed items purchased with those donations, the Posse would not be able to perform these valuable services to the community.

in 2008, the Posse applied for, and received designation as a 501(c)3 Organization.  This status provides for tax deductions to donors under appropriate IRS regulations.
