SANTA FE COUNTY SHERIFF'S POSSE

OUR MISSION

We are volunteer men and women who train for and conduct mounted (horseback) search and rescue (SAR) missions in and near Santa Fe County, New Mexico, on request by the New Mexico State Police.

We are dispatched and certified by the New Mexico State Police and are registered with the New Mexico Emergency Services Council.

 Although sometimes we do assist the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Department with public events, we are not law enforcement officers nor deputies.

Our members include both professional and vocational horsemen and women with a range of training and experience related to mounted search and rescue (MSAR). Most of our SAR missions are in backcountry or wilderness areas.

We were deployed 15 times in 2007 with 100% success
